This is a must have for all home defense handguns. The functionality and ease of use turns every handgun into a real tool. So I purchased this Streamlight TLR-4 Compact Mounted Tactical Light Laser Sight on a whim after reviewing lots of other similar light options for my Springfield XD-M. Perhaps there is a better value in a quality weapon laser / light combo out there but I sure haven't found one better for the money. Mine now rides under the barrel on the rail of a Springfield XD-M and is right at home there.
It allows you to really find out if you're high/low/right/left and adjust much more quickly. The flashlight on the TLR-4 is plenty bright for use inside a typical-size home (~40 foot max range). I mean, a strobe would be nice if it were totally effortless, but when you get down to it, if a basic flashlight doesn't get the job done, this light is connected to something else that will. I have read the instructions for various similar light+sights with a strobe feature, and they all required an extra step to trigger the strobe effect. This light should be powerful enough to easily identify targets at night at 40 feet.
The TLR-4 fits perfect on my G32! Perfect for around the house at night for pesky critters, the light illuminates the night great...laser is very visible day/night. |
- Ultra lightweight and compact
- C4 LED technology
- Ambidextrous momentary/steady On-Off switch
- One h and ed snap-on and tighten interface
- Securely fits a broad range of weapons using key kit provided
People with poor night vision or really large houses might opt for a more powerful light, such as the TLR-2. The laser sight works fine, but the primary issue is that it is located about 2" from the bore axis (depending on the weapon). This means that the laser sight will always be off vertically except for 1 point in space at a specific distance. So, I believe this laser sight should simply be aimed low at close range, which should not pose a problem. Easier to remember to just aim a couple inches low. Though I suppose with scatter-shot at 10-30 feet, it wouldn't make much difference...
There are 3 settings on this Streamlight 69240 TLR-4 Compact Rail Mounted Tactical Light with Laser Sight. Laser, Light and laser light. It can be done easily with an index finger of either hand while holding the gun if you mount it properly. I was particularly impressed with the laser / laser combo setting. The dot is quite visible through the beam of the light at night in any light up to about 25-30 yards easily ... the laser by itself will shine for at least a couple hundred of yards from what I saw when I shined it across my pasture at night ... probably much more than that which actually blew me away.

The only downside to this light as I see it is the fact that there really is no instant quick-release lever mechanism to remove the light. When loaded with 17 plus 1 in the pipe in the Federal HST +P 124 grain flavor I now have a formidable home defense setup with the help of this Streamlight TLR-4 laser / light and Swith and Wesson.
